Before we talk about the software, let's look at the two images on the right.

Going from number 1 at the top and working anti-clockwise, we can see the following:

1. Wires gone

2. People gone

3. Rubbish bin gone

4. Rubbish bin gone

5. Patch of pink paint gone

6. Distortion of building shape fixed.

Is this VERY simple to do? No. Can you learn how to do it? Yes, more easily than you may imagine.

We can also teach you how to do the more commonly required editing such as fixing scratches and tears and fixing red-eye resulting from camera flashes (in three clicks of your mouse!)

What about learning how to turn the images on the left (below) into the image on the right (below)?

The image on the right was created as part of a poster for the 2010 Education Expo.

These are only some examples of what you can do. Which invites the next question:

Is it expensive to do?

No.

Why is it not expensive?

Because the software, besides being free and open source (in licensing terms) is also provided free in cash terms. By this we mean not just free to you from us, but free of cost to us  and everyone else as well. We provide the software to you and the link to where you can get all the upgrades, whenever you like, free (as in free icecream) but also free in the sense of free and open software. You and anyone else can get the software and change it, read the code (if you wish) and change the code (if you wish).

Okay. You don't believe it's really free do you? As in free of cost and free and open source. Okay, we can understand the suspicion. We've all read site where they describe things as being free and then when you go to the site, it's not.

So here you go then, click on this word here - Gimp - and you can get the software for free. Really!

You can also click on the image to the right and it will  take you to the same site.

Now you can get the software without paying us anything at all and you can teach yourself how to use it without paying us anything at all.

Believe us now?

The service being offered by Techfriend is how to find  software, how to install it and how to use it.

Our first priority is high quality, free and open source software. If you prefer software you pay for, that's fine too. We can help you with that as well.

Here is a the link showing you were to buy Adobe Photoshop.

Can you install it on all your machines at home? No.

Is it free? No. This version for students is $165 as of writing.

Can you give it to your friends? No.

Not a student? Here is somewhere else you can buy it.

Do we provide lessons in how to use Photoshop? We can, but we prefer Gimp. For the home user and semi-professional users, we believe Gimp is superior.

For the cost of Photoshop, you can get Gimp AND more than four one-hour lessons on how to use it. For the cost of student Photoshop AND four lessons you can get Gimp and EIGHT lessons on how to use it (sorry, no steak knives).

We think Gimp is a better deal for the absolute majority of those people who want to do high quality, complex image editing and creation and for the average home user who wants to make general, simple modifications to their photos.

The best thing is, you don't have to believe us because you can download it and try it out for yourself.
